Senegal National Football Team Retro shirt

Bruno Metsu was the coach of the Senegal national football team since 2000. The frenchman inspired the Lions of Teranga to play better football.

In February 2000, Senegal joined the quarter-finals of the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations against co-hosts Nigeria.

The game was tense and in the extra-time Nigeria scored the 2-1 that gave the win to the co-hosts, eliminating Senegal.

Metsu create an enjoyable environment in the national team, convincing his players that together they could do something big.

In 2002 this relax but inspiring leadership led the Senegal team to their first African Cup final held in Mali. Even if Cameroon won on penalties, the Lions of Teranga were received in the home-country as they won.

In the same year Senegal joined for the first time in its history the final phase of a World Cup.

In the tournament they defeated the defending champions France in the first game and passed the group stage as second of the group.

Defeating Sweden in the Round of 16 they finally played against Turkey in the quarter-finals. Turkey won the game in Osaka in extra-time but the Senegal National Team did a great performance in their first appearance in a World Cup.

El Hadji Diouf was the star with 9 goals, but on their side Senegal has also, the Senegalese Coach in Russia 2018, Aliou Cissé.  Other great players were Henri Camara, Toni Sylva and Moussa N'Diaye.
