After the first round of the 1989 European Cup, the AC Milan face Red Star Belgrade in the game known as the "game of fog". At the penalties Galli saves two and gives the passage to "the Devil". The Rossoneri will pass the quarters against Werder thanks to a penalty, joining the semi-final against Real Madrid.
After the 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu, the AC Milan in Sansiro opened the scoring with Ancelotti and then crashed Real 5-0 with goals from Gullit, Van Basten, Rijkaard and Donadoni.
In the final at the Nou Camp against Steaua Bucharest are decisive the doubles of Van Basten and Gullit (Milan - Steaua Bucharest 4-0 1988/89).
